Police are patting themselves on the back with the latest statistics showing a drop in crime.
Criminal offending fell 3.2% in past year but 20% in the last five years. Murder, manslaughter and attempted murder crimes dropped by 16.7% compared to the previous year.
But only 42.3% of all crimes were resolved. One reason is the fact only 13% of burglaries are solved, dragging down the overall statistics.
Police say the big picture shows they’re on the right track.
“We’re putting prevention at the front of the equation, vicitms right at the centre of our thinking. Crime is coming down,” says Assistant Commissioner Grant Nicholls.
