The Dominican Republic government commission that oversees public performances is banning a September 13 concert by Miley Cyrus on morality grounds.
That’s less than a month before Cyrus is due in New Zealand on her Bangerz world tour, at Vector Arena on October 8.
The commission said in a statement that it took the action because Cyrus often “undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law”.
Tickets ranging from US$27 to $370 for the concert in the capital have been on sale since July.
Critics have declared Cyrus’ onstage antics, including twerking, crotch-grabbing and occasional drug references, as vulgar.
Her upcoming New Zealand show in October has been branded as “porn” by Family First spokesman Bob McCoskrie.
“Parents should save their money, protect their children and expose them to the far more positive messages of celebrating their achievements, their personality and their uniqueness,” he said.
Cyrus has hit back at criticisms, saying her show is empowering for fans.
“The sexual aspect of our show isn’t targeted at men … It’s what women think is sexy and cool and strong,” she told NZ Herald supplement TimeOut.
Family First slams Miley’s ‘pop porn’ NZ tour
OneNews 22 August 2014
Family First has taken aim at Miley Cyrus’ upcoming Bangerz music tour – encouraging parents to bar their children from seeing the “pop porn” princess’s show in October.
The singer has announced she will play one show at Auckland’s Vector Arena on October 8.
However, Family First Director Bob McCoskrie says that Miley’s focus is clearly on distancing herself from her days as teenage television icon Hannah Montana.
He says there have been numerous reports of the singer using foul language and highly sexualised imagery, as well as normalising drug use, and he believes parents should take heed of how their children could be influenced.
“This is not freedom and power as claimed by Miley – it is simply porn and the promotion of drug use dressed as pop,” says Mr McCoskrie.
NZ family group says Miley’s show is ‘porn’

Miley Cyrus’ show is porn and the promotion of substance abuse dressed up as pop music, says a New Zealand family advocacy group.
Family First’s Bob McCroskrie is urging parents to protect their kids from the 21-year-old singer following an announcement she’ll play an Auckland show in October.
Cyrus’s show features a hotdog and a tongue slide – but there have also been reports of her wearing an outfit covered with pictures of cannabis leaves and of her miming oral sex on a dancer wearing a Bill Clinton mask.
Reviews of the Bangerz tour she’s bringing Down Under indicated it featured foul language, highly sexualised imagery, and normalised drug use, Mr McCroskrie said.
Mr McCroskrie said part of the former Disney star’s show advised parental guidance – and he thought parents should take the guidance in advance before buying tickets.
