MP aims to end street prostitution

New Zealand First MP Asenati Lole-Taylor does not like street prostitution, which is unfortunate because most nights it happens right under her nose.

The MP has an office in Papatoetoe’s Hunters Corner – and it’s from there she’s been running surveillance.

She’s been gathering evidence to support her Members’ Bill which seeks to ban prostitutes from soliciting for sex on the street – but she’s been poking around other red light districts too.

“In Christchurch I saw a little man in the corner and it made me realise that there must be some demand out there for that kind of sex worker.” When asked what sort exactly, she replied, “Well it was kind of a dwarf kind of a lookalike.”

Ms Lole-Taylor wants those men and women off the streets, where she says they’ve been terrorising residents – dancing on street poles and generally making a mess of things.
