National MP Amy Adams’ sister has been appointed as the  Families Commissioner, the second direct relative of a Cabinet minister to be  selected for the commission board.
Social Development Minister Paula Bennett has announced  Belinda Milnes for the permanent position after appointing her as interim  commissioner in February.
This follows the appointment of Education Minister Hekia  Parata’s husband Sir Wira Gardiner to the board in May.
Ms Bennett said 90 people applied for a position on the  board.
There are six commission board members in charge of the  organisation, which deals with government policy and funding for family  issues.
