Ministers in bid to block brothels

Ashburton Guardian 7 Oct 2011
An Ashburton bylaw that allows small-scale brothels in residential areas may be changed next year.A request from the Ashburton Ministers’ Association to the Ashburton District Council could see a loophole in its district plan changed to ensure a home occupation cannot include brothel keeping. The council’s operative district plan could see a small, owner-operated brothel sneak into a residential street under the guise of a home occupation if it was established in the operator’s residential property. And that, the ministers’ association says, is not on….At yesterday’s meeting of the council’s environmental services committee, councillors agreed that the issue would be considered as a variation to the proposed district plan as part of the review process next year.
