A family lobby group says charges should never have been laid against a father who watched helpless as a van with his son strapped inside rolled into a lake. Ashish Macwan has been discharged without conviction over the death of his three-year-old son Aarush in Lake Dunstan. He pleaded guilty in June to a charge of careless driving causing the death of his son while holidaying in the South Island at Easter. Family First Director Bob McCoskrie believes police should’ve shown discretion. He says there’s no point in prosecuting when there’s an action that results in such a tragic outcome.
