City residents on edge after letterbox drop

The Southland Times 30/09/2010
Residents in an Invercargill street are on edge after receiving an anonymous flyer telling them a convicted rapist is moving into the area. The note that appeared in Venus St letterboxes this week claims that Kevin Redhead would be moving into the neighbourhood in about three weeks. Redhead, 49, was found guilty by a jury in 2006 for the rape of a 17-year-old woman on September 26, 2005. He was sentenced to seven years’ jail on May 6, 2006. However, a New Zealand Parole Board spokeswoman yesterday said Redhead was not yet due for release and his next parole hearing was not until the end of October. Then it would be up to the parole board whether he would be released or not, she said. ..Family First national director Bob McCoskrie said the parole board had made dopey decisions about the placement of paroled prisoners in the past. “It’s like putting a person trying to lose weight next to a bakery.”
