Political Leaders Failing to Protect Families from Porn

Family First NZ is slamming a lack of political leadership at both a local and national level to regulating the hard core porn industry and its marketing, and recognizing its harmful effects on families.

“The leadership has been spineless on this issue. Topless porn parades, billboards with sexually offensive images, and free vouchers for hard core porn dvd’s handed out at a public parade – and all literally (and figuratively) exposed to children and families. Where will it end?” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ.

“Where is the outcry from our supercity mayoral candidates? Where is the concern from our political leaders?”

“It is time that the rights of families to be protected from offensive material are put before the rights of the hard core pornography industry to promote themselves,” says Mr McCoskrie.

Family First is calling on the politicians to amend the Summary Offences Act and the Crimes Act so that topless public parades and public nudity are deemed offensive and indecent, and thereby illegal. They are also asking for the Advertising Standards Authority to be replaced by a pre-vetting system with representation from suitable family and community leaders on the Board.

“It’s time the law started protecting and putting the welfare of children and families first. The current law on public nudity is far too liberal and vague and needs to be amended.”
