Condom promotion ‘most complained’ about in 2006

A Hell Pizza direct mail promotion containing a condom aroused nearly 10 times more complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority than any other in 2006. The “Lust Pizza” random mail out attracted 685 complaints, compared with the next highest of 71 for the Hyundai Santa Fe television ad, the authority said in its annual report. The authority upheld the Lust Pizza complaints, saying “insufficient consideration” had been given to the method of distribution and widespread offence had been caused. It did not uphold the Hyundai complaints, about a television ad where a cute baby boy drives a car, picks up a toddler girl hitchhiker and goes surfing. The Lust Pizza promotion was the most complained about ad in authority history “by a considerable number”, executive director Hilary Souter said.
