A Taupo Youth Court judge says some parents are not doing their job and more needs to be done to create better role models for local children. Judge Paul Geophegan made the comments on Wednesday at a meeting of Taupo district youth group representatives and interested parties in Turangi.
Judge Geoghegan says too often he sees youth through his courts that should have never gotten that far through the system and often they are lacking significant male role models in their life. “We have too many parents who are just not doing their job. Adults need to step up to the plate. We have fathers who seem to be just walking out and we have mums out there who are struggling to be both mums and dads.”
